The next part of selecting a wedding ring is deciding on the the metal. The most popular precious metals for wedding jewelry include gold and platinum. Gold is either yellow, or white. This is a matter of personal preference. Gold is measured in karat numbers, such as 14, 18 and 24k. The higher the number, the more gold there is. Pure gold must be combined with other metals to make it suitable for jewelry. Platinum is also a very popular choice for wedding rings. This is because it's not only beautiful, but extremely pure and durable.

Almost always, the mans diamond wedding ring is going to be much wider than the female counterpart. This is so the ring retains a masculine look and looks proportionate on a man's larger finger. It is customary for the groom's wedding band to match the bride's, which in turn matches the metal the engagement ring is crafted from. For precise coordination, some couples choose to buy wedding ring sets that include all the rings. Sets are also sometimes more affordable than buying each ring on its own.
